Backstory/ prologue:
Rephel was born in Blackland city of his father Adranus and mother Juliana Dussan. While his mother would die soon after from complications from child birth, his father would live on to attempt to raise his son on his own. Adranus was a man of great wealth and had been a knight in Regis for as long as he could remember. He served his order well and became a very renowned warrior for his feats and brought much honor to his people. However, with his duties to attend he had very little time for his son, so employed a nursemaid to watch after him in his absence. However, this woman was herself a neglectful guardian and so Rephel was often left to do as he pleased.
As he grew, Rephel developed a bitter relationship with his father. When not on duty, Adranus would often be very strict and demand much from his son, who would soon grow to hate his father's overwhelming rule over him. Rephel decided that with the neglect he received from his father he deserved no loyalty in return, so to spite Adranus, show his own independence, and escape the bonds of knighthood he knew he would one day be expected to uphold, Rephel fled his home at the age of 16 and began life alone in his own corner of the city (the city is rather massive) . Before leaving his home he stole some of his father's gold so he could afford to buy his own lot, trying to pass himself as an adult of a different name.  He was successful… for the most part, and spent a few years this way, working his own job and making his own living.
Eventually though, Rephel would start to regret fleeing his old home and would miss having his father Adranus around. Though it seemed like a good idea to him at the time, Rephel realized the mistake he had made in leaving his family behind yet decided that it was much too late to return home now. Rephel had heard many stories of all his father's accomplishments and would long to see him more and more each day. Instead of scoffing at them, he now had learned to admire them, and thought it would be an honor to speak with such a man regardless of the fact that he was his only son and dearly wished to make up for his immaturity. However, he was sure his father had forgotten about him and would certainly not welcome him back home after running off as he did.
Rephel would soon become an adult and with age came a certain sense of bravery and maturity, and he decided that after all these years he would seek out his father, ask for forgiveness, and try and build a relationship with him. So he set off in search of Adranus, in high hopes that he could at least confirm to his father that he was alive and well and that he meant no hard feelings toward him… He even saved up enough money to pay back that which he had stolen from his father those years ago.
Rephel would first return to his old home. It was abandoned and empty. The door was unlocked so he let himself inside and discovered that All of the furnishings and belongings were missing. Nothing was left of his old home, so he decided that he would go to the only other place he thought he could search- the headquarters of the knights themselves.
Upon arriving he was confronted by one of them immediately outside who questioned his business but did not seem to recognize him as Adranus's son from years ago. Rephel made it clear he was searching for Sir Adranus Dussan and so He invited Rephel inside and told him to sit comfortably while he told him the news. As it seemed, ironically in the very same week that Rephel had decided to seek out his father, Adranus had fallen in battle against a mighty lich. Word seemed to have not gotten around yet, as the knights had hoped to keep it a  secret from the masses for the time being- Why the knights seemed so willing to hand over the information to Rephel , however, was a mystery. Perhaps it was that they had seen something in the young man that made them feel the urge to confess. Either way, upon hearing this news; Rephel told them of his identity as not only the son of a now deceased man, but the son of one of the head knight commanders in their order. He confined in them his story of fleeing home and leaving his father behind, Stealing money from him, scoffing at the code of the knights, and then of his hardships living alone and making his own living. His process of growing up and missing his father, maturing and finding respect for authority, and how he dearly wanted to make up for his past actions that very day.
The knights would listen closely and found Rephel to be a fairly agreeable person. They were captivated with his stories and wished to help him in his quest. The decision was easily made amongst the knights to allow Rephel training in their ways. They told him they wanted to accept him as a knight so that he could pay back his debt to his father, and were willing to train him based on him being the only child of one of the most noble and strong knights they had ever witnessed in action. Rephel promptly agreed and thus began training in the ways of the knights; and after only two years of service with them as a squire (when Rephel reached age 20) : Rephel was knighted Sir Rephel Dussan.
Some years would pass by and Rephel would grow more and more experienced as a knight. He made it his point to become a very renowned one at that - one that all people would one day recognize and look up to. However, though he swore to uphold the knight's code and help people in need whenever he was able- some people never truly change. Rephel was still rather full of himself, was filled with spite and was quite quick to anger. He had a pompous, smug attitude- and rather than waving his independence and nonconformity over everyone else's head as he had done when he was younger; he took to waving his authority and title as a knight over other people. He became rather hard to get along with for most everyone who was not of nobility as himself.
Rephel would travel often and would accompany many others in his travels across the land to gain glory for himself and the knights of The Blacklands. He traveled far and wide, protecting caravans, assisting the common people with their business only a knight could handle, aiding adventurers in their travels, and occasionally returning home to talk with his brethren about his journeys or assist them in his knightly duties. Tales of Rephel spread across the land, or rather were kept in local rumor mills until the whole thing died down again; but in his journeys for many more years he never kept one group for too long because many people would tire of his pompous attitude and his efforts in trying to take too much credit for every action.
In any case, he traveled on; growing in his strengths and becoming all the more powerful in his quests. For many years Rephel would travel; until one day he would come across a group of adventurers with which he would finally begin to prove himself.
This is a sort of prologue/introduction to Rephel I did for a D&D campaign about a year ago. It's nothing but a brief history leading up to the present point where either the D&D campaign or story (Should I ever choose to write it) would begin. This story is a work in progress and can easily be tweaked at any time I decide to.
